Space clearing for home improvement projects

Brits call it renovating. Americans call it remodeling. But whatever you call it, the problems that can arise during the process are pretty universal. Here’s how space clearing can help.

A little-understood reason why renovation projects can get so snarled up lies in understanding what builders are dealing with when they tear a place apart to do improvements. After more than four decades of hand sensing energies in buildings all over the world, I know how deeply imprints can become embedded in walls, and when builders rip structures apart, these energies get dislodged and can cause havoc in a space.

Some builders are resilient and can handle this quite well. Others get completely overwhelmed, and that’s where things start to go wrong. They may get sick, have accidents or make mistakes, all of which can hinder the project and lead to unexpected delays and expense.

My advice if this happens to you is to halt the project, give everyone the day off and space clear the part of your home that is being renovated, using the 21-step ceremony I describe in my Creating Sacred Space with Feng Shui book.

For future projects, remember that  It is much better to do this before the project begins and much easier to do, too, because you won’t have to pick your way through builders’ rubble.

  1. Excellent advice about the photographs – I recently discovered some quick snaps I took when I bought my new camera; that happened to be the day I started seriously de-cluttering. The pictures were rather shocking, and showed how easily we can get ‘fond’ of a whole pile of mess if it’s our own mess! I’m going to take a quick snap once a month now, and monitor improvements/downsliding as I go.

  2. Wow, certainly food for thought, I’m a female builder usually working on renovations in Victorian buildings & jobs always go over schedule & cost more than planned, in the UK we have DIY TV shows & they ALWAYS work into the night too, every time !!!
Amazing theory I’ll have to think about incorporating a ceremony.
    Brilliant, thank you.
