How does a house leak/lose energy? How is this stopped? Does basic Space Clearing have any effect?
- M.W., Canada
Karen's reply:
Space Clearing raises the level of vibration in your home and brings in higher spiritual frequences. This diminishes over a period of time, which can feel like your house is leaking energy (it's just changing levels). Maintenance Space Clearing will help prevent this, just as regular physical cleaning prevents a place from getting too dusty or grimy
A year ago my niece lost her 21-year old son in a tragic car accident. My husband and I went to the site with her until they took his body.
For weeks now, I felt like I should go to the scene of the accident and do something at the time of the anniversary of his death. Then I read today in Clear Your Clutter with Feng Shui that in Bali they ceremoniously purify the spot. Can you give me some pointers? I appreciate any help you could give me. Thanks,
-S.F., USA
Karen's reply:
The Balinese technique described in my book is used to call a person's spirit back to themselves after it has been jolted out by a trauma or accident. A completely different ritual is used in the event of death, and it is too intertwined with the Balinese Hindu religion to be applicable to a similar situation in the West.
The closest equivalent would be the practice we have of laying flowers on the spot in the days and weeks following an accident. Returning there on the anniversary of a person's death to lay flowers can really help to soothe the waves of grief that usually surfaces at this time but would not actually have any value at this stage in assisting the transition of the person who died.
The best book I have ever read on the topic of death and helping people through the process of grieving is a 'Knowledge Track' entitled Death: The Great Journey by Dr. Samuel Sagan, available online from www.clairvision.org. It's self-published so costs more than a mass-market publication but I wholeheartedly recommend it to you. If you were to ask me to compile a Top Ten of the most important books for a human being to read in their lifetime, this would be No. 1.
I also very much recommend that your neice space clears her home or calls in a professional Space Clearing practitioner to help her do this. The ceremony is described in my book, Creating Sacred Space with Feng Shui, and is designed to leave all the joyful frequencies in a space intact while clearing out lower frequencies of sadness, grief, anger, etc. It will help her to move on and create her life anew.
This is rather a strange question, but I would like to know whether it is possible to space clear a website!
My husband is involved with working on a website which was set up by some people in a very unhealthy mental frame of mind. These people have now departed, though are still trying to complicate matters from afar and there is a lot of bitterness on their part. Everything to do with the site seems to run into problems, and it is as if the strangeness of the original creators of the site has got "wired into" it. There is a lot of potential for this site to be of great public benefit, if only it would be somehow flushed of the bad energy. Is there anything that can be done?

Karen's reply:
This is a very interesting question. Unfortunately you'll have to wait at least five years, perhaps ten, for my answer! It's very clear to me that cyberspaceclearing - or whatever it will be called - is futuristically going to be very necessary but I'm only in the early stages of working with these energies, and technology is also still in the early stages of developing the full extent of what can go wrong in these realms.
In the meantime, whenever you are working on the website my best advice to you is to get into the habit of uplifting your energy - a technique that was taught to me by Dr Samuel Sagan. This involves sitting with your back straight and pulling your energy upwards from the top of your head, as if you are being pulled up by string an invisible string.
Although this technique may sound very simple, it is in fact very effective in counteracting the soporific effects of computers. Of course you'll also need to find yourself a new website designer whose energy you really like, so that they can sweep out all the stuff you don't want and replace it with what you do want. Let me know how you get on.
I'm preparing to space clear my home and have a question about sea salt: Can I use the type of sea salt that is sold for bathing purposes, or is there a special kind I need. If the answer to the latter question is yes, where would I order it?
Thank you in advance, Suzanne
Karen's reply:
The use of sea-salt is an optional extra to the Space Clearing ceremony. If you attend my workshops these days you'll find I explain that I never use it myself now as experience has shown it is only minimally effective compared to the main techniques described in my 21-step ceremony. But if you really want to use it, any kind of unrefined sea salt or rock salt will do.
I am currently reading your book, which is fabulous. My room mates and I have realized that the house is haunted. I don't know if it is a ghost or a spirit or presence or what but there is something definitely there. Should we still space clear? Will this make the ghost angry if we change it's environment? I just feel uneasy about doing the Space Clearing now that I know there is something else living there.
Thank you, A.C, USA
Karen's reply:
In all the hundreds of homes I have space cleared over the years I have yet to encounter a fully-fledged ghost. What I have found is etheric imprints left in the walls or furnishings that people think is a ghost, or astral fragments in a building that may seem like the residue of a person but are in fact only crystallized remnants (entities). Space Clearing will easily clear the first and won’t clear the second. A trained entity clearer is needed for that.
I suggest you purchase a copy of 'Entity Possession' by Dr. Samuel Sagan. This excellent book will help you ascertain if you really do have an entity in your home or not. If you realize you don't and cease to feel apprehensive, by all means go ahead with the Space Clearing. If you remain certain that you do or remain fearful or apprehensive anyway then definitely do not go ahead.
There has been an upsurge recently in the number of people who claim to be able to clear entities but in my experience their actions, however well-meant, either have no effect at all or cause the entity to go into hiding for a while and make it even more difficult to clear when it re-emerges later with more cunning than before. As a general guideline I have found that the more dramatic the ceremony or the more the entity is commanded or entreated to "Go to the light", the less likely the person has any idea what they are doing. The only entity clearers I can completely recommend are those who have been trained by the Clairvision School so I suggest you visit www.clairvision.org to find out if there are any in your area.
Can you space and clutter clear the home of someone else even if they don't want it or believe in it? I am thinking of my elderly mother who is depressed and lethargic and lives with incredible clutter and awful energy in the house.
Thanks, Kit G., USA
Karen's reply:
It definitely is NOT OK to space clear or clutter clear without a person's permission.
This is explained in detail in my books:
Creating Sacred Space with Feng Shui - Chapter 6, Step 2: Obtain permission before doing Space Clearing in someone else's personal space
Clear Your Clutter with Feng Shui - Chapter 14: Other People's Clutter
You say in your clutter-book not to do space-clearing when you have an open wound. I have psoriasis for two years now and there is always a spot on my skin, that is a little open. Can I never do a space-clearing ?
- E.F., Germany
Karen's reply:
First of all, please do not attempt Space Clearing from the short description in my Clear Your Clutter with Feng Shui book. You will need to read the full description in my first book, Creating Sacred Space with Feng Shui to be able to do the ceremony safely and effectively.
However in your case, please proceed with extreme caution. An open wound of any kind (including psoriasis and weeping eczema) has a physical component that you can see and also an etheric component that you can't see. In other words, the the rupture is not just physical but also energetic. Your skin condition is likely to become aggravated if you attempt to space clear and you can also be vulnerable to undesirable energies entering your etheric. I would definitely advise that someone other than you does the Space Clearing in your home.
In your book it says that I need to take off all my jewellery before I do Space Clearing but I have a wedding ring that won't come off. Does this mean I can't do Space Clearing?
- J.J., USA
Karen's reply:
Metal conducts any electromagnetic and geopathic stresses in the environment into your body. You certainly wouldn't be able to work as a professional space clearer wearing a wedding ring that won't come off because you would toxify very quickly, but it will be fine if you just want to do your own home from time to time. Be sure to soak in a bath of warm salt water afterwards to cleanse yourself of any energies your ring has drawn into your body, and be especially sure to wash your hands in cold running water after the clapping part of the ceremony.
I would like to know if I have to include the toilets of my flat when I'm doing Space Clearing of my flat.
- Yedzi Irani, India
Karen's reply:
Yes, definitely include the toilets on every circuit you do. Toilets need clapping and bell ringing as much as everywhere else. However I usually do not find it necessary to put an offering in the toilet or bathroom area of a home unless the energy feels particularly bad there. Usually it is enough to place offerings just in the major rooms of the home.
One exception would be if the occupants are spending a lot of time in the bathroom and it has been created as a mini-living room - for example, if it has a bookcase, television, carpet, sofa, etc. I sometimes come across these types of bathrooms in my consultancy work (often in the homes of Pisceans, who feel so at home in the water element that they have created a small personal paradise in their bathroom).
I have been reading your book, Creating Sacred Space with Feng Shui, and am learning so much from it!! Thank you. You present so much information in a way that's easy to understand and balanced.
I'm sending off this email to you, however, because of your suggestion on bathing with flower petals. I've recently learned that commercially grown flowers use an incredible amount of pesticides and other chemicals designed to time their bloom, etc. No doubt these chemicals are harmful, esp if one sniffs them or takes a bath with them! Best to suggest, in my opinion, homegrown flowers, or flowers grown without chemicals (though may be difficult to ascertain.)
Thanks again for your wonderful book, which I am gradually putting into practice.
Best - A.S., USA
Karen's reply:
As you say, it is best to use only homegrown flowers or those certified as being grown organically without pesticides. I will revise this information in future editions of my book to make this clear to readers.
