Space Clearing Questions

Dear Karen,

I had a question following the wonderful Space Clearing I had with you. Within a few days I received a phone call from my ex-boyfriend who I had not heard from in 7 months. The relationship was intense and ended on bad terms, ie. we didn't speak to each other since as he didn't want to see me.

I had buried him in my mind, yet just a few days after the Space Clearing he contacted me and has been very full-on, inviting me to dinner and wanting to take me out. I still haven't seen him as I am confused about what his intentions are, and this all happened nearly a month ago. He is still calling me, but I have a boyfriend overseas so I feel guilty if I go out with the ex.

I was just wondering why all of a sudden and at the same time as the Space Clearing, this happened? Could I have been having subconscious thoughts about him or comparing him to my current boyfriend, and so I manifested him to come back into my life? It is a compliment to have him contact me, but I don't want to get hurt again.

Karen's reply:

You didn't mention this relationship to me during the consultation so it's not something I thought to tell you about then but I, and all the practitioners I have trained, often find that family and relationship reconciliations happen after a Space Clearing. I can remember several occasions when family members who have refused all contact for years suddenly phone up out of the blue even before the Space Clearing ceremony has finished, wanting to forgive and forget. The same thing happens with sour relationships. One couple I space cleared for hadn't had sex or intimacy in over a decade. After the Space Clearing they danced the evening away, spent a passionate night in bed and rediscovered their love for one another.

My explanation for why this happens is that the process of clearing out the old energies in a home creates a fresh start in every aspect of a person's life, including the relationships they are involved in.

However this is not to say it would be wise to become involved with this man again. It's enough that the bitter ending of the relationship has been healed. The Space Clearing ceremony will also have improved your relationship with your current boyfriend so my advice is to focus your attention on that.

Can you accidentally or unknowingly wake up dormant spirits through space clearing?

Hmmm, I wonder what you mean by dormant spirits? When talking about the unseen worlds it's good to use precise language, so I'm going to rephrase your question in order to answer it.

If you are asking, "Is there a danger that the Space Clearing ceremony can accidentally activate astral entities in your home with the result that they start causing problems?" then the answer is most definitely NO. I tested the ceremony for many years before publishing my book to make sure it was completely safe in this respect, and it is, providing you follow all the steps in the order they are listed, especially Step 1.

However I won't vouch for the safety of the ceremony if you call in an untrained practitioner to do their own version of my Space Clearing ceremony in your home. That can cause a wide variety of problems.

Will washing second-hand clothes and china from antique shops clear them of other people's energies and/or other unwanted frequencies?

Karen's reply:

Washing second-hand clothes will clear them of other people's energies. Washing china and other similar objects will not because the water does not permeate all the way through in the same way as it does when washing clothing.

To clear these types of objects you will need to do the Space Clearing ceremony described in the first chapters of my book, Creating Sacred Space with Feng Shui, which will clear the energy of rooms as well as all the objects in them. If there are items you are particularly concerned about, give them an extra dose of clapping and bellwork as you go around the room, and be sure to use a Balinese bell for maximum effectiveness.

Dear Karen,

I live in a beautiful Victorian town house. It was bought to be a meditation centre, which was visited by many revered and powerful yogis, who all commented on what a special building it was. There are incredibly high vibrations soaked into its very fibres.

I chose to move from the house as I wanted to follow other pursuits in my life but it continued very successfully as a meditation centre until three years ago as I needed to return to the house to bring up my two baby girls.

Since moving back to the house I suffered a miserable split from my partner and developed very severe post natal depression. I also allowed clutter to build up in abundance. I am now off the antidepressants and feeling better than I have in years and ready to make positive changes in my life and make my dreams and aspirations happen. I have started clutter clearing and once that is complete I would like to do some space clearing. My question is this: Will space clearing affect the powerful vibrations that were imbued in the house before my more recent upsets?

I worry that I have spoiled the high atmosphere that was once here especially with my depression, anger and hurt, oh, and clutter, of course. I would love to restore the energies here to their former height as well as follow some feng shui suggestions. My main concern is that the good energy and vibrations already here are not lost completely if I space clear or follow any of your suggestions. I only wish to get rid of the negative energies.

I would also be very interested to hear your thoughts on how I can respect this unique building that I live in which was nothing short of a temple in its time as a meditation centre and how can I take maximum benefit from its special vibrations?

Karen's reply:

As I explained in the question above, 'Does Space Clearing affect 'good' energy?', it only clears out low level energies, not the higher ones. All temples in the world practice a form of Space Clearing regularly in order to create an environment that is conducive to high spiritual connections. The form I have developed is non-denominational, and can be used by people of all cultures, religions and spiritual affiliations.

What interests me most about your situation is whether those who ran the centre, or the yogis who visited, formally consecrated the house to their own frequencies. It would have been very wise of them to do so, and it's extremely likely that they did. This would explain the high atmospheres they were able to create and could also explain the difficulties you've had since you moved back. If you are no longer a practicing member of their organization, your frequencies and theirs may have been psychically at loggerheads.

It's no easy matter to reconsecrate such a space. My trained practitioners would be able to do so but you certainly wouldn't be able to do it yourself.

I suggest you finish your clutter clearing, do Space Clearing, and then see what happens. If you feel motivated in the following months to resume a more spiritual way of life then that would be in keeping with the energy of the space, and it would bring a happy resolution. If you feel no such inclination then you may need to think about moving house so that you can get on with wherever your new life may lead you. The important thing is for you to find what's right for you.

Before we move in to a new house we have purchased, should we do Space Clearing? The previous owners are a very happy and prosperous couple? Will Space Clearing remove good energy from this house as well as negative or stuck energy?

Karen's reply:

Space Clearing only clears out low level energies. The higher levels remain intact.

No matter how wonderful the previous occupants were, it is always good to do Space Clearing when moving into a new home. People always leave some degree of psychic debris behind which needs clearing. Also, the harmony ball part of the ceremony will allow you to consecrate the space to your own specific frequencies.

It is best to do the Space Clearing just after you have moved in rather than before you move in. This is so that all your belongings get space cleared as well as the building.
